Trean is an independent, employee owned holding company with subsidiaries active in reinsurance brokering, insurance company management and insurance consulting services. It is affiliated with Benchmark Insurance Company, an “A-” rated insurer admitted in 49 states and the District of Columbia. Trean and its subsidiaries are headquartered in Eden Prairie, Minnesota with branch offices in Kansas City and Las Vegas, plus satellite offices in Costa Mesa, California and Brookfield, Connecticut.

Trean was originally formed in 1996 by individuals with decades of experience in reinsurance brokering, underwriting and insurance company management. It was founded on the principle that experience, superior technical abilities and creativity will deliver a better value proposition than the standardized products and bureaucracy of our larger competitors.

While Trean has successfully worked with very large and established insurers, its focus is on the needs of small to medium sized and specialty insurers, including captives, risk retention groups, managing general agents, specialty/program divisions of insurance companies, pools, trusts and exchanges. Trean is particularly active in establishing fronting relationships enabling insurers and program managers to offer their insureds “A” rated insurance policies in all states.
