Trean Corporation Overview

The Trean Corporation is uniquely integrated to provide insurance risk assumption and policy issuing services, insurance and reinsurance consulting services, and reinsurance brokering. In 1996, it began when Trean’s management team left a large, publicly traded reinsurance broker and established what is now Trean Re as a reinsurance broker and managing general agent. Over time, Trean has developed into three distinct companies; Trean Reinsurance Services, LLC, Trean Underwriting Managers, LLC, and Benchmark insurance Company (an affiliated company managed by Trean).

Trean Underwriting Managers, LLC

TUM provides insurance and reinsurance consulting services and administrative support to insurers, managing general agents, captive managers, governmental agencies and insurance pools.

TUM was formed in recognition of the fact that sometimes an “outside” review may lead to operational improvements or provide confirmation of the efficacy of current methodologies. Sometimes it is more cost effective to outsource specialized skills or operations. TUM brings the experience and technical abilities of successful insurance executives to advise on issues ranging from underwriting guidelines, rating methodologies, risk selection to claims processes. TUM also provides many administrative services for captive managers and captive insurers.

Benchmark Insurance Company

Benchmark is admitted in 49 states and the District of Columbia and carries an “A-” rating from AM Best. Affiliated with Trean, it works closely with Trean Re and TUM to provide fronting services and risk sharing with insurers, captives and risk retention groups who need “A” rated, admitted paper.
